A SERIES of free creative writing workshops for adults have been given a funding boost from Arts Council England.

Organised by Read Now Write Now and Wirral Libraries, the 'Write Time, Write Place' project will run for eight weeks from January to March 2019.

The creative writing courses for beginners will take place in libraries across the borough, focussing on inspiration, characterisation, settings, plotting stories, revising and editing.

Principal of Read Now Write Now, Charles Lea told the Globe: "We are delighted that to have again been successful in obtaining funding from the Arts Council and look forward to running the workshops with adults to inspire their creativity in Wirral especially during 2019 when it will be Borough of Culture.

"We aim to help participants learn the skills to write a short story and to thereon write independently.

"We feel that there is no better sense of achievement for writers than to see their work published into an anthology.

"Feedback from the new writers on the previous courses has been absolutely positive with many not only enjoying the writing aspect but also commenting on how well the course has boosted their health and wellbeing and confidence.

"The real legacy is that many of these new writers are still meeting up and write.”

Successfully delivered in 2017, the new dawn for the project will take place just as Wirral celebrates becoming Borough of Culture.

After the workshops, participants will be encouraged to finish their stories and submit them for a Write Time, Write Place anthology which will be professionally published.

Libraries across Wirral will also keep copies and writers will be offered the chance to read extracts from their stories at a special event at the Floral Pavilion.

Strategic librarian Kirsten Hume said: "Wirral Libraries is delighted to have successful secured an Arts Council National Lottery project grant for the Write Now Write Place project.

"The project will inspire and empower local participants with their creative writing, with workshops aimed at beginners.

"Participants will also see their work published in a special anthology, which will be available across our network of libraries.

"Wirral Libraries believes that taking part in a cultural activity has a positive impact on health and wellbeing and we are proud to be part of Wirral Council cultural programme for 2019 as it celebrates being 'Borough of Culture'."
