A CHAPELFORD Village Primary School pupil has started a petition to introduce sign language on the national curriculum.
Lilly Aghanian, from Great Sankey, wrote to Prime Minister Theresa May more than 10 months ago but has yet to receive a reply.
The 10-year-old decided to set up an online petition which needs 200,000 signatures to force a debate in Parliament.
She wrote: 'I am starting this petition as I do not understand why primary schools do not teach sign language but they teach foreign languages!
'I have children in my school who have hearing difficulties and I wish we all could communicate with them using sign language to help them feel included.
'I have written to the prime minister over 10 months ago and am still waiting for an answer so I thought I'd try this.
'I need 200,000 signatures to take this further so please sign and share with your friends.'
