POLICE are appealing for information from the public after arsonists damaged four vehicles in Widnes.

At around 6.10pm on Sunday, November 11 unknown offenders set fire to a Vauxhall Zafira which was attached to a Ford low loader van on Randle Mews.

The fire quickly spread, severely damaging both the Zafira and the van.

Two other nearby vehicles sustained heat damage due to the scale of the fire.

Firefighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and spent more than 40 minutes tackling the fire.

Detective constable Jordan Trentini said: “Arson is extremely dangerous – fires put the lives of the public and firefighters at considerable risk and also take up a lot of valuable time and resources.

“This fire caused substantial damage to a number of vehicles and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace whoever was responsible.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or has any other information that may help our investigation to get in touch.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone with any information about two men who were seen acting suspiciously in the area in the moments before the fire.

“The men are both described as 6 foot tall with a stocky build.

“The pair were both wearing dark clothing, balaclavas and gloves.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 128677.
