A FATHER and daughter took part in the 'People's Procession' in London on Sunday.

It gave members of public were given the unique opportunity to take pay their respects to family members who served in the First World War.

Paul and Jenny Gorman, from Padgate, were successful in gaining a place in the procession after entering a ballot and were invited to the capital to walk along The Mall in memory of Paul's grandfather Tommy.

Tommy Gorman, from Bewsey, won the Distinguished Conduct Medal at the Battle of Loos in 1915.

He saved a wounded officer and helped 10 men to escape by throwing grenades at the enemy from a trench.

Tommy was promoted to sergeant after this act of bravery.

Paul, 61, was allowed to wear his granddad's medals on the day.

He said: "As we passed under Admiralty Arch there was a large crowd and a woman in the crowd shouted out 'thank you to you and your families' – myself and Jenny were very touched by this.

"The parade itself was quite emotional as everyone had their relatives pictures or medals and some carried wreaths for the fallen who had no grave to mark their last resting place."
