TWO men poured petrol over a sweet shop in Padgate before trying to set it on fire in an attempted arson attack last night.

Detectives are investigating after the men, who were wearing dark tracksuits with their faces covered, targeted Dutch Lux on Padgate Lane at 6.20pm yesterday, Monday.

In a post on the company’s Facebook page last night, a spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience but the shop will be shut for the rest of the night.”

The shop opened in March selling chocolate and candy usually not available in the UK.

Emergency services were seen outside the store after the alarm was raised.

Detective constable Darren Burns said: “While we follow a number of lines of enquiry I want to hear from anyone who may have been in the area and could have seen two men acting suspiciously.

“It would have been quite busy at that time of the evening with people travelling along Padgate Lane therefore I would urge anyone with dashcam footage to also get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting the number IML 239563.
