WIRRAL'S Scout Post will go on sale this weekend in the run-up to Christmas.

For more than 30 years, Wirral Scouts and Guides have been running the Christmas Charity Post delivery service to Wirral addresses and this year, it will go on sale on Saturday, November 17.

Available at 30p per Scout Post stamp, volunteers will collect your cards from special drop off points around the borough, sort into rounds and deliver cards to your friends, families and loved ones.

This year, 13-year-old Lily Holmes from 1st Willaston Scouts won this year's stamp competition for her reindeer inspired design which will be printed on more than one million stamps.

Liam O'Malley from the Wirral Post marketing team said: "We loved the simplicity of the cheeky Reindeer, and felt that when paired with brightly coloured backgrounds this design would really stand out and help us Deliver Christmas to even more people across the Wirral when they go on sale on November 17."

The fundraising initiative – which runs until December 12 – is a cooperative venture between 46 Scout Groups, two Guide Units, three Ranger Units and five Guide Districts.

Since it began in 1982, the Wirral Christmas Charity Post has raised more than half a million pounds for more than 261 charities, in addition to more than 50 different Scout and Guide units and groups.

This year's post will support; Byrne Avenue Trust, Charles Thompson Mission, Cruse Bereavement Care, Family Tree Wirral, Hoylake Cottage, Hoylake Parade Community Centre, iPLANit Kids, Maggie's Merseyside, Mersey Counselling Therapy Centre (MCTC), Multiple Sclerosis Society Wirral, Ronald McDonald House at Arrowe Park, New Brighton RNLI, Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust, Wirral Disabled Integrated Social Club and Wirral Hospice St John's.

As usual the 2018 Wirral Post will support Wirral Scouts and Guides, with 75% of all funds from the sale of the 30p stamps. The remaining 25% will be distributed to the 16 other charities listed.

Each year charities can nominate themselves with the scheme's charity committee and once costs are deducted, all remaining cash is given to charities each Spring with cheques of more than £100,000 given out each year.

The Scout Post cannot deliver to Ellesmere Port, Great Sutton, Chester, Liverpool or further afield.

Cards must be posted before midday on Wednesday, December 12.
