MERSEYSIDE was lit up with colour and music as the River of Light event returned with a bang.
Hundreds and thousands of visitors headed out to both sides of the River Mersey to catch a glimpse of the fantastic firework display.
Organised by Titanium Fireworks, the company took over co-ordinating the event last year having previously worked on national events including the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve party, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and the opening ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In New Brighton, spectators caught a glimpse of ghostly pirates on board the Black Pearl.
As part of the event, fireworks were set off from barges on the river accompanied by a soundtrack played from key spots and venues across the waterfront.
The event also marked the end of Imagine Wirral, which has provided some memorable events throughout the year including Lost Castles and the Tall Ships.
