THE Wallasey tunnel approach road has reopened both ways after a concern for safety of a man.
Emergency services were called at around 7.30am today (Tuesday, October 30) following reports that a man was on top of a bridge on Poulton Road.
The man was talked down by police officers and has now been taken to hospital for assessment.
Earlier, a Merseytravel spokesman said: “Merseyside Police and Mersey Tunnels Police are currently dealing with an on-going police incident requiring the closure of the M53 approach road to Kingsway tunnel in both directions.
“The tunnel itself remains open with diversions in place, however traffic is heavy.
“We will re-open the approach road as soon as possible. In the meantime we would kindly ask those affected by the closure to remain patient and if you are planning your journey please consider alternative arrangements.
“It is Merseytravel policy not to provide any further details on incidents of this nature. For further information please contact Merseyside Police.”
Drivers were being urged to find alternative routes.
Traffic was gridlocked on M53 Northbound, the A5139 Dock Road and Birkenhead town centre.
Incident resolved and #M53 j1 closure removed. safe travels this morning.
