A SECURITY officer was threatened by a masked gang during an attempted robbery as he delivered cash to the West Kirby branch of Aldi.
The incident took place shortly after 10.30am on Monday.
The guard was approached by two men who demanded he handed over the cash box.
The pair left the scene empty-handed. Their vehicle is believed to have been driven along Bridge Road and onto grange Road
The guard was not injured but left very shaken by the incident.
Detective Inspector Siobhan Gainer said: "Robberies of security guards are not victimless crimes and it is unacceptable for this guard to be subjected to this ordeal while he was just trying to carry out his job.
"We are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area including the examination of CCTV and forensic enquiries."
