AN elderly man was airlifted to hospital after being struck by a train in Wirral this afternoon.
Merseyrail announced on Twitter that trains were off after the man was hit just before 1pm.
The incident took place at Bebington station.
A statement from British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Bebington station at 12.56pm today following reports a person had been struck by a train.
"Colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance and a person is being treated at the scene.
"The incident has been declared non-suspicious."
The man was taken to Aintree Hospital where his injuries are described as serious.
Services on the Chester and Ellesmere Port lines still remain subject to delay but trains have resumed calling at Bebington station as normal.
