MERSEYSIDE'S LMA Choir impressed X-Factor judges with a stunning performance of Circle of Life in the competition's first live show on Saturday.

The 15 singers, three of which are from Wirral, performed an enchanting version the song from The Lion King in front of a live studio audience and millions of viewers watching at home.

They won groups mentor Robbie Williams over during the judges houses stage of the singing contest.

Following Saturday's live performance and with the crowd chanting 'LMA', Robbie Williams said: "Where's my camera? Give me that camera over there - Scousers, mobilise!

"These are your people – do what you do so well, and take them through to this competition’s final. Come on!”.

Lead judge Simon Cowell said: "This was a great song choice, it was a great performance.

"We've never had a choir on this show before, and I have waited for a moment like this.

"This to me was the best performance we've seen you do so far", while Louis Tomlinson added that "It was a brilliant song and a brilliant performance to start off your live shows".

Speaking after the live show, choir founder Stephanie said: "Performing this evening was incredible, we are so grateful for the amazing feedback and support.

"We hope to continue to make Liverpool proud".

Choir member Joel Cornwall added "Performing live at the X Factor was a dream come true and it was even better that I got to share it with my best friends".

LMA Choir’s X Factor journey progress through the 2018 series so far started with an audition at the SSE Arena, Wembley, where they were given a standing ovation by all four judges, and was followed by a nail-biting Six Chair Challenge where they fought off fierce competition to keep their seat in the Groups category.

Last week viewers watched as they impressed Robbie Williams and surprise guest David Walliams with a brilliant rendition of James Bay’s ‘Hold Back the River’ in the grounds of Robbie’s stunning LA mansion.
