1. PUMPKIN FESTIVAL Kenyon Hall, Croft, until October 28

Kenyon Hall spends six months growing more than 15,000 pumpkins on two patches across five acres of land. There is also a dedicated carving area but it is important to check the farm’s website before going due to factors that might affect your visit like weather and site capacity

3. SPOOKY MAIZE TRAIL The Hayloft, Sandy Lane Farm, Bold, until October 31

Find the pumpkins hidden around the trail and collect all of the letters to make a Halloween word for a prize

7. MURDER MYSTERY Penketh Library, October 24, 6.30pm to 8pm

Dust off your deerstalker and take part in the Wenlock Mummy murder mystery whodunnit. Hear the testimony of the four suspects plus two experts witnesses, then decide who is the guilty party and why. £2.50 per person

Ghost stories will be read by candlelight. Suitable for ages 12 and over. £2 per person

Meet grumpy goblin 'Grumplesnotskin' then help goblinise the woods with spiders. Watch out for puking pumpkins with candy brain worms.

The Fairy Forest School special event includes campfire lunch and costs £12 per child with adults going free.

Charity dog walk in aid of Warrington Animal Welfare. The charity, based in Slutchers Lane is a volunteer-run rescue which offers neutering and microchipping and rehomes unwanted pets

19. WIZARD AND DRAGON MAGIC SHOWS Cockhedge Centre, October 27, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3.15pm, free

Watch a magic show. Your little ones can also get a temporary gruesome tattoo or be treated to a glitter art makeover
