POLICE are appealing for information after three masked men attempted to rob a betting shop in Birkenhead.

Merseyside Police were called at around 8.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 16) to William Hill on Laird Street after three men entered the shop and demanded cash from staff.

An alarm was activated and the men left empty-handed.

No-one was injured during the incident.

One of the men was wearing a black North Face jacket, dark coloured trousers and was aged around 25 to 30-years-old.

He was around 5ft 10in and spoke with a local accent.

The second was around 6ft 1in, aged around 35 to 40-years-old and was wearing a light grey and black two-toned hooded top.

Another was in his early 20s, around 5ft 7in and was wearing a blue jacket.

All of the men had their faces covered.

Detective inspector Mike Dalton said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Laird Street in Birkenhead last night who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.

"Thankfully no-one was injured during the incident and the males left the shop empty-handed but enquiries are ongoing to trace the people responsible.

"I would ask anyone who may have information which could assist the investigation to get in touch as a matter of urgency."
