MORE than 300 people braved the wind and rain for a five-mile walk in aid of Wirral Hospice St John's.

Those taking part in Glow with the flow on Friday night followed a route around West Kirby and Hoylake, starting and ending at Tanskey's Bistro at Coronation Gardens.

Because of wind, the course was changed slightly, steering clear of the potentially dangerous, exposed coastal areas.

Local pubs and businesses opened their doors to those walkers who needed a 'break' and Hoylake Community Centre hosted teas and coffees half-way around the route.

Sarah Burgess, the hospice's fundraising officer, said: "We are so grateful to the hundreds of walkers who showed their support for Wirral Hospice St John's in such horrendous weather.

"We understand why many chose to stay away; Storm Callum definitely caused problems for our gazebos!

"We are a bit worried though that, because of the storm, fundraising income from the event won't be as high as in previous years.

"So, if anyone would like to donate to Glow with the Flow, they can text GLOW44 and £5 or £10 to 70070, many, many thanks."

Supporters can also send a cheque made payable to Wirral Hospice St John's to, Wirral Hospice St John’s, Glow with the Flow, Mount Road, Higher Bebington, Wirral CH63 6JE or call the fundraising office on 0151 343 0778 (Mon to Fri, 9am-5pm) to make a donation over the phone.
