A MAN has been found guilty of murdering his partner in a ‘sustained and frenzied’ attack at her home in Howley.

William Smart, 55, left Angela Craddock with more than 100 different injuries after punching, kicking and stamping on her at the flat on St Elphin’s Close in April this year.

He also attacked the 40-year-old with a guitar and a broken drumstick.

Smart, of Winmarleigh Street in the town centre, showed little emotion.

Judge Neil Flewitt will sentence him tomorrow morning, Wednesday.

He told Smart: “There is only one sentence for that can be imposed – that’s life imprisonment.”

The defendant nodded his head and replied: “Ok, yes.”

Judge Flewitt thanked the jury for their efforts, who have sat in court since Thursday, October 4.

He said: "We understand that there's a large investment in dealing with these cases, in both time and emotion.

"Without that the court system could not operate properly.

"We don't underestimate the stress at all.”
