AN investigation is underway after the death of a prisoner from Birkenhead at HMP Liverpool.
Ian Galtress, 47, was found dead inside the Walton prison on Sunday, October 14.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) have now launched an investigation into his death.
A spokesman for the prison service said: "“HMP Liverpool prisoner Ian Galtress (30/06/1971) died in prison on 14 October 2018. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”
In January the prison was deemed as the 'worst' in the UK with inmates living in 'squalid' conditions by inspectors.
It is believed at least seven men have taken their own lives at the prison in the last three years.
