CLAIRE'S is the latest high-street business considering store closures across the UK.
The accessories giant, which has stores in Birkenhead's Pyramids Shopping Centre and Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port, is thought to be discussing a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
A CVA is a insolvency procedure which means shops that are under-performing could face the axe.
There are more than 350 Claire's stores across the UK and hundreds of jobs could be at risk if the company chooses a CVA.
This news follows the chain's US parent company filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.
The US company announced last week that it has now emerged from Chapter 11 protection, having restructured almost 2 billion US dollars (£1.5 billion) of debt.
Chief executive Ron Marshall said Claire's had emerged as a 'healthier, more profitable company' after eliminating debt and gaining access to 575 million US dollars in new capital.
However, Claire's has previously stressed that its European operations would not be affected by the American business.
