THE planned opening of a Burger King in New Brighton is a move that will "not be to everyone's liking", it's been claimed.

The fast food giant is set to open a store at Marine Point, New Brighton in the unit formerly occupied by Chimichanga, which closed earlier this year.

The chain has submitted plans for new brand signage over the restaurant in Wirral, although an opening date for the store has not yet been revealed.

Commenting on the new arrival, Wirral’s ward councillor for New Brighton, Pat Hackett, said it was "vital" the Marine Point resort is full, but said not everyone will be happy at the news.

He said: "I know it's not to everyone's liking, but it fills a vacant shop unit and will undoubtedly bring in more people.

"I think it's important to look further than just this as we look to build on New Brighton’s undoubted success, and ensuring Marine Point is full is a vital component of that, as we look to bring in more different types of leisure, cultural and creative attractions to add to the mix that is already there.

The response on Facebook was mixed.

Diane Blake said: "Not another fast food chain. Who is going to clear all the litter they produce?"

Leanne Shillinglaw said: "Nice restaurants and places down there and they put a Burger King there!"

While Matthew Piercy wrote: "Better than shops sitting empty I guess."

The chain advertised on recruitment site indeed.co.uk for a restaurant manager and assistant manager for the outlet back in June.

One of the biggest fast food names in the UK behind McDonald’s and KFC, Burger King already has more than 500 restaurants in this country.

The Tex-Mex outlet Chimichanga was one of 33 across the UK to close, with the decision having been made in March to help save the business from administration.

Marine Street Social – an independent food and drink market similar to Liverpool’s Baltic Market – opened in May.
