THE Boundary Commission has published its proposals for changes to the number of Parliamentary constituencies.
The number of MPs in Wirral would reduce from from four to three.
I believe that the proposals have been developed on flawed principles.
One reason given for needing fewer MPs was that much of our legislation is made by the European Parliament where we have MEPs to represent our interests.
This will probably no longer be the case.
The figures used to determine the size of the constituencies are based on the electoral register and not population size.
Those not on the register, for example those who move house regularly for work, need representation.
It was thought that reducing the number of MPs would save money.
There are many examples where simply seeking short-term cost savings provides an inadequate service and creates more expenditure in the long-run.
