COMMUNITY groups in West Wirral are invited to come forward to bid for cash to fund improvements for their local area.

Groups, voluntary organisations or social enterprises in the constituency can put forward their schemes and requests for funding which can range from £100 to £1,000.

Eligible projects will then be put to a community vote and asked to take part in a funding showcase event to help decide which projects will receive funding.

Decisions on grant awards will be announced at Wirral West Constituency Committee's meeting on Thursday, March 14.

Cllr Jeff Green, chair of the constituency committee, said: "In 2016 the Community Fund supported projects right across the constituency.

"Grants went to allotment societies, carers support groups, lunch clubs and some of our many Friends Of parks and libraries groups.

"We also supported Christmas lights, community events and activities relating to the arts, history and conservation.

"These local projects make a big difference and once again we are offering an opportunity for groups to apply for funding and for residents and communities to show their support for the projects and improvements that matter to them."

The fund opens for bids this Friday, with a closing date of Friday, November 23 at midday. Eligible groups will be required to take part in a funding showcase event on Tuesday, January 22 next year.

Groups will be required to deliver their projects by the end of March 2020.
