A DERELICT site in Wirral has been brought back to life and now features a development entirely made up of affordable housing.

Families in Bromborough are moving into the ten homes on a site off New Chester Road after a £1.65m development funded by Wirral Council, Wirral Methodist Housing Association and Homes England.

Known as South View, they feature a mixture of two and three-bedroom properties, with one larger home suitable for people with mobility problems – with all of them affordable.

The homes are all let on affordable rent tenancies, set at 80% of the market rate.

Each of the new homes has under-floor heating, and “larger-than-usual” living and bedroom spaces, car parking spaces and access to local amenities.

Cllr George Davies, the council’s cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “I am delighted with the new South View development, which offers attractive and affordable homes in a great part of Wirral.

“It’s been brilliant to see families move in and make the new houses their homes. They are all really happy with the finished result.”

According to the council, which contributed £75,000 to the scheme, the new properties have been designed and finished to sit well alongside existing properties in the historic Bromborough Pool Village, which dates back to the mid-1800s.

Wirral Methodist Housing Association provides family houses, flats and supported accommodation to residents, including sheltered housing and shared ownership schemes.
