WIRRAL professor and Knight of Norway Steve Harding will be hosting a talk to discuss plans to excavate an intriguing ship buried under Meols' Railway Inn and Norway's most famous Viking ship the Oseberg.

Steve will discuss about the work his colleagues have conducted scientific research into saving one of the most treasured Viking ships - the Oseberg on Thursday, September 20, at Charing Cross Methodist Church from 7.15pm.

Currently the Oseberg's artefacts are facing issues and are under immediate threat of disintegration due to wood decay.

On this evening, Steve will also discuss plans to excavate an old boat underneath the Railway Inn pub in Meols.

The ancient vessel has been shown to be still buried deep under the patio at the front of the pub and there are plans to expose the boat next year in an attempt to get it assessed and dated to find out the answers of its origin.

Hosted by the Birkenhead History Society, Steve's presentation will take place at Charing Cross Methodist Church in Birkenhead from 7.15pm with doors opening at 6.45pm.

There will be a £2 charge to this event on the door and it will include a copy of Steve's book Science and the Vikings.
