Emergency services were called into action when a dog-owner jumped into the Mersey to try to save his pet.
Officers were called to an area near the Spaceport in Seacombe at around 12pm, on Thursday, September 13, following reports of a person in the water.
Crews discovered the owner, who had jumped in to rescue their dog from the water.
The dog owner was saved and assessed by paramedics.
Two firefighters performed CPR on the dog but unfortunately it died at the scene.
Officers from the RSPCA and Coastguard were also in attendance.
