GLOBE art critic Peter Grant meets Wirral-based Peter Macaulay whose latest exhibition called Not Quite a Life's Work is charming visitors at the Editions Gallery in Liverpool.

He has been described as 'one of Merseyside's little known, but most gifted artists.'

Having seen his work at the View 2 Gallery, Corke Gallery and Staacks in West Kirby to name a few places - I would certainly agree.

Peter, based in Wallasey, continues to surprise with his abstract and at times surreal work.

He explores and develops what has been for him a life-long source of inspiration - the human figure.

Despite the free flowing lines there is a solid geometry within his compositions.

He has a sharp sense of humour and it shows in his diverse work In the mid '90s he participated in the 'Artists at Work' programme at the Walker Art Gallery and has gained many admirers since.

Peter spent 25 years in advertising and publishing and developed businesses in Manchester and London.

He has worked on a variety of photographic and design assignments in the UK, Europe and America.

In 2000 he was able to give up working as creative head of Littlewoods to concentrate on making his own images.

Winner of the Laird Memorial prize and the Charles Oliver Award for painting in 2012 at the Wirral Society of Arts competition.

He was invited to judge the annual exhibition of The National Acrylic Painters' Association.

Peter has exhibited widely across the UK including the Walker Art Gallery, John Moores University as well as galleries in London and St Ives.

His work hangs in several private collections in both the UK and Europe.

Now is your chance to see an impressive collection of outstanding creations.

Not Quite a Life's Work is on view at Editions Gallery, Cook Street, Liverpool until September 22.
