IT doesn't seem a year since we said goodbye to the Fab Four ... Paul, Sandi, Prue and Noel.

But in an age of peurile reality shows there's only Strictly Come Dancing and Bake Off that deserve the mouth-watering ratings.

While Dec awaits Holly Willoughby to 'stand next to him' to replace Ant, in Bake Off's in-tents atmosphere they serve up warm, natural teamwork - it boosts confidence in the nation's amateur bakers.

This is Heaven's Kitchen. Sorry, Gordon Ramsay you are not welcome here.

I have no interest in Strictly with its baying sheep of a studio audience.

It is usually curiously titled 'celebrities' (people we have never heard of) limbering up for panto.

Bake Off is now in its second glorious year at Channel 4.

It emerged as a golden bun in the BBC's creative oven maturing into a national treasure.

A controversial move to C4 brought it more fame and forune and before long we forgot about the original ingredients - Mary Berry, Mel and Sue.

The structure remains the same as the judges - Wirral's wonder man Mr Hollywood and witty Pru - go together like apple pie and custard.

Sandi and Noel also put the contestants at their ease with almost child-like glee but with ultimate professionalism.

Culinary chemistry all round.

Everyone looks as though they are savouring every moment.

Happily, we now have a three-month course to look forward to.

On Tuesday, we lost Imelda who regreted her self-acclaimed show-stopper.

Doorstopper was more like it.

Star baker Manon looked as though she was the cat that got the cream.

We have 12 weeks left and I, like millions of others, will enjoy the tasty creations wishing someone would invent a telly that can send out cookery aromas.

Everytime I see Bake Off I am transported back to childhood and can smell my mum's scones.

That would be the icing on the cake for me. Smell-a-vision ... Bake Off style.

There is a bonus too, with Joe Brand's An Extra Slice analysis on Fridays.

Bake Off is back and as entertainment goes it really does take the biscuit.

Scrumptious - five stars
