A BEDROOM in Prenton has been named the worst in the UK in a national competition.

Fiona Karbal, was chosen as competition winner after she submitted a picture of her son's half decorated bedroom which has a bare plaster wall and mismatched furniture.

Home furnishings retailer Terry's Fabrics launched the competition last month calling for people across the nation to share their photos of their embarrassing bedrooms to be in with a chance of winning a well-deserved makeover.

Fiona said: “The bedroom has been like this ever since we moved into the house two years ago.

"My son’s bedroom is one of the last remaining ‘really ugly’ rooms left to decorate.

"He has been very patient as he knows we have had other priorities, so it will be really nice to finally get his room done.

"It has a bare plaster wall where a leaky roof was repaired, two other walls painted yellow and orange and an orange ceiling.

“He’d really like a masculine or gender neutral looking bedroom and likes retro and mid-century modern styles.

"I’m delighted to have been chosen as the winner of the competition.

"It will allow us to buy some fabric to make some new curtains and we’ll also invest in some blackout blinds.”

Many other entries included bedrooms which were outdated and rather than unlivable.

Owner of Terry’s Fabrics Paul McGuiness said: “The competition was initially launched as a fun way of gathering images of peoples’ outdated bedrooms.

"But after seeing Fiona’s entry, we felt it was only right that she won, as her son really was in need of a better bedroom and sleeping environment.

“There are so many people across the country putting up with run-down and old-fashioned bedrooms, usually because they haven’t had the time or money to give their room a re-style.

"We’re aware that not everyone has the means to decorate and wanted to help out in a small way, to improve the living and sleeping conditions of a family in the UK.

“A lot of the entries we saw were outdated, but still functioning bedrooms.

"When we saw Fiona’s entry we were compelled to help and felt that she and her son deserved a makeover.

"We hope that the hamper of products will help her to refresh her home this year.”
