GOALS from Paul Mullin and trialist Enrique Castano earned Tranmere a 2-0 win at Warrington Town in Tuesday night's pre-season friendly at Cantilever Park.

Micky Mellon fielded 20 players throughout the fixture, with only Ritchie Sutton and Mark Ellis playing the full 90 minutes, while there were also appearances for trialists Zoumana Bakayogo and Kai Tonge.

Rovers almost took the lead in the third minute from a corner, but James Norwood saw his effort scrambled off the line.

Jonny Smith brought a save out of the Warrington keeper on seven minutes while Luke Pilling pulled off a couple of smart saves at the other end and the hosts hit the cross bar from a free kick on 10 minutes.

The deadlock was broken on 32 minutes.

Norwood chased a ball over the top and forced the keeper to clear with his header and the striker quickly found Ben Tollitt wide on the left.

The winger drove towards the goal line and cut the ball back to Castano who found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Pilling saved three times in quick succession on 37 minutes, twice with his feet before racing back to block on his line.

Substitute Connor Jennings fired across goal and wide seven minutes into the second half and he was involved again on 72 minutes when Rovers found the second goal.

A corner from the right was headed goal wards by the 27-year old and Mullin flicked it past the keeper from close range.

Jennings was denied a goal of his own on 85 minutes when the keeper produced a fine save high to his right, the last chance of the game.
