THE owners of 88 classic cars will show them off during Wirral's 19th historic vehicle rally tomorrow.

Organised by Wirral Classic Car Club, the event starts outside the Red Fox in Thornton Hough then motors on to Carr Farm Garden Centre, Meols and finishes at Thornton Hough on the village green, where the mayor and mayoress - Cllr Geoffrey and Anne Watt - will present the prizes at 3.30pm.

The entrants' cars date back to 1907.

Organiser Blair Percival points out that the event has attracted massive interest over its 19-year history and is a chance for the public to see cars they would not normally see on Wirral roads.

He told the Globe: "The event was originally set up in 2000 to show pre-entered historic vehicles in motion around the Wirral and was also to promote different parts of the area to tourists.

"Over this time the route and stopping places have changed to provide variety and many thousands of spectators have come to view the cars in motion and at the stops.

"The free event programmes individually describe the cars and provide information on each one, largely supplied by the owners.

"The judging involves not only cars in great condition, to original specification and with information of interest to the public, but also the owners are encouraged to wear period attire."

The 88 entered cars date back to 1907 and many have been painstakingly restored by their owners to immaculate condition. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Councillor Geoffrey Watt and the Mayoress Mrs. Anne Watt, will be riding in Clive Patterson’s 1962 Ford Zodiac in the afternoon.
