A NEW book based on the memories of Little Sutton has been launched.

The launch event was held at Little Sutton Methodist Church with a packed audience in attendance.

The Little Sutton Memories book proved to be so popular that, following the official 'ribbon-cutting' ceremony by Ellesmere Port Mayor Karen Shore and Justin Madders MP, a record 100 copies were sold there and then.

Mr Madders had already had the opportunity to read the book and praised its content and its importance in recording the village's history for future generations, importantly before it gets lost forever.

The book, that devotes itself to Little Sutton's more recent past (it's 1,000 years old), is packed full of people's memories.

Over the past 18 months, 60 locals were interviewed for their memories and many more contributed photos and other memorabilia – at last putting the village's stories firmly down in what is a 148-page, fully illustrated book in colour.

Based around a 1939 walk Joe Bennion, a local Suttonite, talked in detail about at a meeting of the Ellesmere Port Local and Family History Society in January 2015.

It has been written by a team of other Suttonites: Ian Grove, who co-ordinated the team, Pat and Dave Green, John King, and John Driscoll. Many others have been involved including a considerable amount of excellent historical advice by Nigel Rose.

Copies are £12 and are available from the National Waterways Museum (Boat Museum), the town's libraries (including Little Sutton) and Trinity Methodist Church in Whitby Road.

Some of the images are on display in The Port Arcades and books will be on sale there for Veterans' Day on Saturday, June 23, from 10am-3pm, with further sales dates in the pipeline.
