A NEW date has been revealed for when Wirral's controversial dock bridge will finally reopen.
The new large red bridge connecting Birkenhead and Wallasey via Tower Road has been sat in place ready to replace its predecessor, which closed in March last year.
It has handed motorists a time-consuming diversion and been the subject of frustration on social media, with the reopening date having been put back on more than one occasion.
But a Wirral council spokesman this week revealed there are hopes the bridge, which connects Alfred Dock with East Float, will open sooner rather than later.
He said: "Subject to satisfactory testing – which is ongoing – final safety works and acceptance by Peel Ports, we hope the bridge can be opened to traffic before the end of June."
