WIRRAL NHS Community Foundation Trust chief executive Karen Howell writes for the Globe ...

WITH nearly nine out of 10 adults using the internet at least weekly and with 73% of adults accessing the internet while they're out either on a tablet or smart phone it make sense that more and more services are available on line: shopping, banking, applying for jobs.

The list is endless and it's not just the younger generation using technology to access services.

Recent internet use in the 65-74 age group has increased from 52% in 2011 to 78% last year.

Older people aren't just using their computers either, they're branching out into mobile phones and tablets.

So it’s fantastic that health and care services are now catching up with providing more services on-line, as people expect a more efficient and streamlined experience.

Online assessments for adult social care is a perfect example.

Wirral residents can apply to see if they qualify for care and support from the comfort of their own home.

The initial assessment can be completed quickly and easily online.

Anyone aged 18 or over, who might be finding it difficult to perform some day-to-day tasks, or might be struggling as a result of age, illness or disability may qualify for care and support and the online form is a convenient way to start that process.

The online assessment looks at your specific needs, based on:

Your health and safety

Your ability to manage personal and daily routines, independence,

Your wellbeing

Your ability to make your own choices

A financial assessment will help you find out if you need to contribute to your care costs and once the assessment is completed you'll receive immediate information about services, advice and guidance.

It's that easy.

There is a variety of support available to help people stay independent and get the most out of life.

This could come from Wirral Council, Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust or from other professional care providers and you can choose the services that best meet your needs.

If you think you might benefit from adult social care support, simply visit www.wirral.gov.uk, search for 'online assessments' and complete the online assessment today
