LIFE-SAVING defibrillators have been installed across Wallasey and Moreton.

Funded by the Wallasey Constituency Committee and North West Ambulance Service, the defibrillators have been installed at sites which can be accessed by the public 24 hours a day in case of an emergency.

Chairwoman of Wallasey Constituency Committee, Cllr Bernie Mooney said: “These are life-saving devices which have been placed at key locations and will be able to be used by anyone in an emergency.

“When people call 999 the operator will be able to see if there is a defibrillator nearby and give the caller the code to access it.

"The device itself then instructs the user on how to apply it – and gives a greater chance of saving a life.

“We would like to thank all the people who have agreed to have these potentially life-saving devices located at their premises.”

The defibrillators are housed in external cabinets and cost around £1,600.

Once they are installed the electricity supply is around £15 a year.

Community resuscitation manager for North West Ambulance Service Rob Hussey said: “The chance of survival is reduced by 10 per cent for every minute without CPR and defibrillation.

“It’s vital that people in the community are made aware of what to do in the event of a cardiac arrest and are able to start life-saving work even before we’re able to get there.

“Early defibrillation gives patients in a cardiac arrest the best possible chance which is why it’s so important that community access defibrillators are available in as many places as possible, particularly areas of high footfall.

"They’re so easy to use, no training is necessary as the machine will tell you everything you need to know and you can’t do it wrong.

"In the event of a cardiac arrest, dial 999 as soon as possible and our emergency medical dispatcher will give you all the instructions you need.

"They’ll let you know if there is a defibrillator nearby and how to access it.”

The defibrillators are located at:

• Public toilets at junction of Pasture Road and Leasowe Road

• Moreton Library and One Stop Shop

• Moreton Community Centre

• Windsors – Wallasey car dealership, Wallasey Village

• Castle Carpets, Wallasey Village
