A WIRRAL school has announced it is to re-introduce boarding this September and open a new sixth form.

The introduction of Boarding at Kingsmead School in Hoylake - a response to parent feedback and international demand - will make it Merseyside's only mainstream full boarding school.

There will be a range of options including flexi, weekly and full boarding to accommodate all student and parent needs, and students visiting from overseas.

As in the past, each boarding house will be run by an experienced Housemaster or Housemistress, and be supported by Kingsmead’s celebrated pastoral team.

Headmaster Mark Gibbons said: "Boarding was once the traditional option only for better-off families, the church and the military, but now it is a modern, flexible solution to the demands of many different families' very busy lives.

"Opening boarding at Kingsmead again means we can offer children from Wirral and all over the region the opportunity to study hard, socialise safely and achieve their potential while their parents meet their heavy work commitments.

"In an increasingly pressured world, having boarding available is a very welcome option for many families."

The announcement of the new Sixth Form follows two successive years achieving the best GCSE results for all-ability schools in Wirral – an astonishing 92% of pupils passing five or more subjects in 2017.
