BUSINESSES in Wallasey are being offered free training to gain a better understanding of customers with dementia.

The new scheme by Wirral Council's Wallasey Constituency Team works in partnership with the Alzheimer's Society to provide free training for local independed businesses.

People with dementia can face barriers such as loss of confidence which can affect their ability to take on certain tasks such as shopping.

They may also worry about being confused or leaving a shop withour paying.

Research from the Alzheimer’s Society shows that by becoming ‘dementia friendly' and giving staff the resources to help shoppers can help them retain customers.

Limited funding is also being made available by the Wallasey Constituency Committee for businesses to make small changes to their premises to better accommodate customers with dementia.

Independent businesses can apply for places on the following sessions:

• New Brighton, Tuesday, February 6.

• Wallasey, Tuesday, February 13.

• Liscard, Wednesday, March 7.

• Moreton and Leasowe, Wednesday, March 14.

• Seacombe and Egremont, Thursday, March 22.

Spaces are limited so early booking is advised.
