FORECASTERS have issued a weather warning for gusts of wind as Storm Eleanor heads for Wirral.
Strong gusts of up to 80mph in coastal areas are expected on Wednesday, January 3.
These areas, combined with high tides, will be affected by spray and large waves.
Properties may sustain some damage and people are being urged to take care due to flying debris.
Cancellations to public transport are likely with delays, route and bridge closures affecting journeys.
There is also a chance of disruption to power and other services.
The chief forecaster said: "A swathe of strengthening winds is expected to affect England and Wales, arriving in the west initially before pushing eastwards during the early hours of Wednesday.
"Particularly strong and gusty winds could be associated with heavy, blustery showers on Wednesday.
"Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are likely quite widely within the warning area, whilst gusts of 70 to 80 mph may affect exposed coastal areas in the west and south."
