WIRRAL NHS Community Foundation Trust chief executive Karen Howell writes for the Globe...

WE'VE been working with our friends at the Globe on ideas to broaden this column and share more information about the NHS and how our services can support you.

Over the next coming weeks we will be introducing some new Day in the Life Of... articles featuring our front-line staff.

Our health and care professionals and management teams will be sharing from behind-the-scenes what goes on in a typical day at work, from providing treatment and care for patients to planning rotas and ensuring we have the right medical equipment and stock.

As a registered nurse, it's always a privilege and a humbling experience to hear about what's happening in people's lives and how we can help and support them to live independently and as well as possible.

Further, it's always enjoyable to spend time with our staff and hear about their lives, their ideas and how we can work together to further improve our services.

The trust's chief operating officer Val McGee and myself are planning to spend time out on the road working alongside our community nurses and our new social care teams.

It may be interesting for you to know that many of our executive team and senior managers come from clinical backgrounds.

However, all of our board members, senior team members and increasingly our governors spend as much time as possible with health and care professionals to gain a greater understanding of our services from their perspective.

I hope you enjoy the Day in the Life Of ... articles and reading about the amazing work our health and care professionals and management teams do for you.

Meanwhile, I am delighted to inform you that the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will visit St Catherine's Health Centre on Friday, September 8, at 2.30pm.

I would like to offer a very warm welcome to everyone in the local community who would like to join us for this wonderful ecclesiastical event.

The Archbishop will be joined by wife Margaret and the Bishops of Birkenhead and Burnley for a tour of the health centre and to meet patients, staff and local residents.

Dr Sentamu will also be giving a short address in the public foyer.

The Mayor, Cllr Ann McLachlan, and her consort Bill McLachlan will also be joining us.

On behalf of the trust I would like to invite local residents to feel free to come along to join us if you are able.

Finally, have a lovely bank holiday weekend!

If you do need medical treatment when your own GP is closed, don't forget there are many out-of-hours services close to where you live.

Your pharmacist is always a good health professional to consult on many conditions and we have NHS walk-in-centres and minor injury units across Wirral.

Please try to keep Accident and Emergency for those that re- ally do require emergency or urgent treatment.
