A FUNDRAISING page has been set up to raise cash for the funeral of a Wirral man who was killed fighting against ISIS in Syria.

Luke Rutter, 22, also known as Soro Zinar, from Birkenhead was reportedly killed on Wednesday, July 5 as he fought alongside the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.

He is the fourth British person to have been killed fighting in Syria.

A fundraising page has been created called ‘Luke Rutter – Our hero’ to help raise funds to help bring Luke home.

The page reads: “The aim is to get Luke home with his family and friends.

“We want to raise as much money as possible to help Luke’s family bring him home and to give him the send-off that he deserves.

“As you can imagine it has not been a good time for his family, as a parent you never expect to have to plan your own child’s funeral so what we want to do is take the financial burden away from his family.”

So far £40 of the £5,000 total has been raised to bring Mr Rutter back to his home of Birkenhead.

In a statement released after his death the YPG said: “Comrade Soro travelled to Rojava in March and joined the YPG to fight the fascist and reactionary ISIS gangs in Raqqa.

"He was martyred on July 5 after battling bravely in the terrorist group's so-called capital.

"The people of Rojava will not forget his sacrifice.

"From the very first day until the end of training, Soro gave the impression that he knew what he was doing and what he had come for, and he was always eager to learn new things.

“We never saw him yelling at anyone or complaining about anything.

"At the end of training in the academy, when asked the usual question addressed to every volunteer: ‘Are you ready to fight?’

"He firmly responded ‘Yes’ and said he wanted to fight the fascist organisation of IS."
