A BIRKENHEAD law firm aim to raise £500 for children's charity Stick 'n' Step by taking part in a boat race on the River Dee.

Staff from Your Legal Friend will take part in the Chester Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday, June 25 to help the charity that works with children and young people with cerebral palsy in the North West and North Wales.

In the run up to race day there will be a fundraising event on Friday, June 9 where each of the 13 members of the team will take to the rowing machine in their office to row 200 meters.

Other staff members such as solicitor and department manager Phil Waters, HR manager Jo Mercer and first response team manager Linda Henry will be placed in ‘the stocks’ and their colleagues will throw wet sponges at them for a small donation.

Last year’s Dragon Boat Festival saw more than £22,000 raised by seventeen teams for local and regional charities.

HR adviser Julia Bond said: “We’re looking forward to taking part in the races at the festival and can’t wait to go head to head with the other teams – not that we’re competitive of course.

“Stick ‘n’ Step are a fantastic local charity which carry out life changing work and we are delighted to support them once again.”

Your Legal Friend’s fundraising is part of Stick ‘n’ Step’s 50/50 challenge which sees the charity provide businesses with £50 to kick start creative and fun money-raising efforts.

Hettie Miles, fundraiser from Stick ‘n’ Step said: “We’re extremely grateful to Your Legal Friend for focusing their efforts on raising money for us.

“Their support will help us provide conductive education sessions that allow the children we help to gain the skills they need to live independent lives.”
