NOMINATIONS are now open for the annual Wirral Tourism Awards which champions the borough’s well-loved visitor attractions.

In its 11th year the event strives to recognise and reward the outstanding contributions made by local people, groups and businesses.

The deadline for entries is Monday, March 1.

Awards will be presented on April 12 at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.

It is estimated that the tourism industry contributes £385 million a year to the local economy welcoming more than eight million visitors to the area.

Wirral Council’s tourism champion, Cllr Tony Jones said: “The Tourism Awards are a great way to celebrate the many individuals, groups and businesses that have helped to make Wirral’s visitor economy the fastest growing in the Liverpool city region.

“As a key economic driver for the Wirral 2020 Plan, it is vital that we continue to develop and promote our tourism offer and to shout about its fantastic assets from the rooftops.”
