POLICE have confirmed the identity of a teenager who died after he was hit by a car in Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry this morning.

Connor Smith, aged 16, from Rock Ferry was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His family have been informed and he has been formally identified.

The 49-year-old male driver of the car, a Vauxhall Astra, remains in hospital where his condition is described as serious but not life threatening.

Emergency services were called at around 7.30am after the car collided with Connor and then hit a wall.

Tributes are being made to Connor on social media. 

His school Bebington High said: "In view of today’s terrible tragedy, we are, out of respect, postponing the Sixth Form Parents’ Evening tonight. Kind Regards, Ms C Kelly."

Kathy McCoy said: "So tragic... Thinking of his family."

Joanne Dudette Menzies commented: "Such sad news... Thoughts are with the family at this heartbreaking time."

Sharon Wade said: "Heartbreaking, life is so very precious."

Kayleigh Mcminn commented: "R.i.p so sad another life taken far to young thinking of all his family friends and girlfriend at this sad time." 

A police spokesman said: “Connor's family have asked to be left alone to grieve at this time.”

Old Chester Road at the junction with Bedford Road has been closed while accident investigators are in attendance, and enquiries are on going.
