TRANMERE Rovers' have signed winger Ben Tollitt on a permanent deal from League Two side Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has been on loan from the South Coast club since September and quickly established himself as a fans' favourite at Prenton Park with his skilful play.

He has made 11 appearances for Rovers so far, scoring three goals and making a number of assists.

Tollitt came through the Academy system at Premier League club Everton.

After his release by the Toffees, he dropped down and rebuilt his career in non-league football with Widnes and Skelmersdale United.

After a pre-season trial during the summer of 2015, Tollitt worked his way up to the Football League and earned a permanent contract at Portsmouth where he went on to make 18 appearances, scoring one goal.

Rovers manager Micky Mellon said: "This is a great signing for the football club to be able to add a young, local emerging talent into the group.

"Ben is a lad of great promise and if he continues to work hard, he will be able to fulfil that potential.

"I'm sure the supporters will be pleased that we've added another exciting player to the squad.

"There are not that many players around of that style, so he brings us something different and I'm delighted that we've completed the signing."
