WIRRAL West MP Margaret Greenwood has been appointed shadow work and pensions minister in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's cabinet reshuffle.
Ms Greenwood, who had been working behind the scenes in the shadow DWP team, is among 21 MPs joining Mr Corbyn on the front bench.
She said: "I am delighted to be joining Labour’s Shadow Department of Work and Pensions team as a junior shadow minister under the leadership of Debbie Abrahams MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and Jeremy Corbyn.
"I have been working behind the scenes in Labour’s DWP team for the last year as Parliamentary Private Secretary.
"We've had a number of successes in challenging the government's cuts to social security, including forcing u-turns on cuts to tax credits and to Personal Independence Payments.
"Labour’s DWP team has an important job to do in holding the government to account over its policies in relation to work, benefits and pensions and I am looking forward to playing my part."
