OH, what a night ...
Billy Hui set up his SingMe choir in Bebington more than two-and-a-half years ago.
What started out with just eight members in number now exceeds 200.
A fine Wirral-born achievement now spreading its joyous wings all over the Merseyside area.
Billy conducts the choir
They have come on in leaps and bounds under the stewardship of musical director Billy and his 'glue' in the inspirational Wendy Williamson.
Their variety event was the latest showcase of their growing development with a little help from their friends.
Last year's event over-ran.
It was four hours long and bordered on Doddy-esque proportions.
This year's evening was tightly structured, packing a lot in and all the better for it.
Entertaining on the night
Next year's will be even more finely-tuned.
Having 100 singers on this occasion on stage cannot be easy, but they look good and sound even better.
I have seen them perform in various forms and numbers and I am always delighted by their spirit, dedication, impeccable stage wear and heavenly harmonies.
They perform numbers and medleys - Motown and Liverpool-themed - with style and confidence and are adventurous notably on a wonderful version of Bohemian Rhapsody aided by talented newcomer Kevin Parker on guitar.
The choir opened and closed the show and it's good to know this is only the start of Billy's ambitious musical plans for them.
The event raised money for Clatterbridge Cancer Centre so it was all in a very good cause delivered with enthusiasm from all the guest performers which included Birkenhead's Robbie Southworth and actress and singer Edwina Lea - stars of Moggies the Mewsical.
Funny verse from Ian Kenyon; Chinese culture from Pagoda Arts mother and son Zilan and John Liao and an uptempo set from a duo Calli and Mark Hughes.
Singer-songwriter Steve Macfarlane, who has worked with Billy at Parr Street studios for under a decade provided a cross-section of brillantly-executed material from his albums.
This was a triumphant concert for all ages.
I am happy to sing the praises of SingMe Merseyside and all who sail with them into a formidable future.
Singing sensations
Four stars
