A WIRRAL woman is taking part in a 10k night time walk in the hope of raising money for a charity close to her heart.

Sheilagh Kernaghan from Greasby is set to complete Maggie’s Culture Crawl in memory of her mum who passed away from terminal cancer in July last year.

The walk is being organised by Maggie’s cancer charity, they provide free practical, emotional and social support for people living with cancer and their friends and family.

24-year-old Sheilagh said: “I was at University when my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I was 300 miles away from home studying in Canterbury.

“I was away from my friends, family and boyfriend so it was quite a lonely experience. My parents told me to stay at University so I found support with Maggie’s Centres online.

“My mum was only 50 when she passed away and that’s something that I can’t change but Maggie’s has helped me to change things for other people.

“For the past six months, I have been helping Holly, the lovely Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Merseyside with all-things-digital.

“Together, we’ve been able to raise awareness of Maggie’s and what it does for people.

“People get in touch to say that in the middle of all of the chaos that cancer brings, Maggie’s has been a place of solace for them.

“I think the Culture Crawl is a really positive way to raise money for people affected by cancer.

“It brings people together. I have actually helped to organise this event so I know all of the amazing things that are lined up and I’m looking forward to taking part.”

The walk will take place on Friday September 23 and will start at 6.30pm.

The route will take participants past some of Liverpool’s most iconic buildings including the Radio City tower and the Anglican Cathedral.

Tickets can be bought online or on the day.
