Mayor of Wirral Cllr Pat Hackett will invite Sam Quek and Steve Cummings to a civic reception to celebrate their remarkable achievements as part of Team GB’s historic Olympics.
Sam won gold as part of the Team GB women’s hockey team, triumphing over the Netherlands following a penalty shootout.
Steve was a member of Team GB’s men’s road race team, who were unfortunate not to win a medal after an incredible 241.5km endurance test..
Sam, who attended Birkenhead High School and Calday Grange Grammar School, was part of her team’s first appearance in an Olympic final for 36 years.
She has previously won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, as well as a gold medal in the European Championships in 2015.
Steve who comes from Clatterbridge,and formerly raced for Birkenhead North End Cycling Club, has won stages of the Tour de France as well as medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
