A WIRRAL charity has been presented with a cheque by Merseyside police’s assistant chief constable.

Sundowns which supports children and young people with Downs Syndrome and their families received the cheque for £635 from assistant chief constable Julia Cooke.

Mark Bridge, a trustee for the charity, together with his 14 year-old son Daniel, who has Downs Syndrome were there to receive the money, which was raised through a raffle and auction at the Merseyside Police Dinner which was held in Liverpool in June.

Sundowns, which is based at Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, was formed in 2000 and became a charity in 2001.

It currently supports more than 70 families across Wirral and Liverpool and offers social activities for the whole family, monthly support meetings, awareness raising exercises and provision of training and equipment to schools who have pupils with Downs Syndrome.

Assistant Chief Constable Cooke said: "It is important to Merseyside Police as an organisation to be able to support local charities across Merseyside.

“Sundowns do a marvellous job in helping provide a support network for families with Downs Syndrome children and young people.

“I hope that our contribution can help them continue the good work they already do.”
