Analysis of voting patterns at polling stations across Wirral in the EU Referendum shows all but one Parliamentary constituency voted for Remain.
Birkenhead opted for Brexit and according to the town's MP: "The poorer the area, irrespective of its location in Wirral, the bigger its Leave vote."
Frank Field said: "The Birkenhead result reflected the overall result in the country.
"While the other three Wirral constituencies voted to Remain, there were large shifts between prosperous and non-prosperous parts of the borough.
"The poorer the area, irrespective of its location in Wirral, the bigger its Leave vote was.
"There are huge challenges here for the Labour Party in representing its traditional voters as well as being able to attract the goodwill of other voters who believe in reform."
