IN response to the recent letter headlined Reconsider electrification the development of the Wrexham / Bidston line which serves Upton station, is within the Liverpool City Region's long-term rail strategy.

We certainly recognise the potential economic benefits improvements would bring to North Wales, Wirral and the Liverpool City Region as well as to those living along the route.

Electrification requires massive investment, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be a longer term aspiration.

In the meantime we'll be looking at potential incremental improvements, for instance working with Arriva Trains Wales, who currently operate on the line, and the Welsh Government on what opportunities there are to increase service levels.

The more people there are using the services ultimately strengthens the business case for electrification.
