I HAVE observed with a growing sense of bewilderment teams of workmen slaving away for weeks on end widening an enormous length of pavement – and thus narrowing the road – at Cavendish Street, opposite the police custody suite, in Birkenhead.
I understand that the safety of pedestrians is of paramount importance to us all.
The only problem is that in this part of town, there aren’t any pedestrians.
So, can someone tell us why, when there are far more pressing problems on Wirral’s highways, this titanic waste of money was ever authorised?
