A woman was arrested following a report of an assault in New Brighton on Monday.
At about 6.15pm, officers were called to a report of a woman hitting a man on the head with a hammer on Victoria Road.
It was also reported she was in possession of a kitchen knife.
The 55-year-old man sustained a small laceration to his head.
Patrols attended the scene and enquiries are ongoing.
An investigation has been launched and a forensic examination of the scene has taken place. CCTV opportunities are also being explored.
A 57-year-old woman from New Brighton was arrested for affray and on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article.
She has been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.
